Mystery Revealed: What frightened the USS Donald Cook so much in Black Sea?

Sergio says: Dear Lada, I found this article on: What frightened the USS Donald Cook so much in the Black Sea? http://www.voltairenet.org/article185860.html. Did you know of this and do you have any comments. Thanks, Sergio.

Thank you, Sergio, for an interesting link and question. Yes, I have lots to say on this. There were some materials in the Russians press, although this information was diligently covered up and suppressed in the US and West in general.

USS donald cook

Quote from the article in Voltairenet.org: “The State Department acknowledged that the crew of the destroyer USS Donald Cook has been gravely demoralized ever since their vessel was flown over in the Black Sea by a Russian Sukhoi-24 (Su-24) fighter jet which carried neither bombs nor missiles but only an electronic warfare device.

On 10 April 2014, the USS Donald Cook entered the waters of the Black Sea and on 12 April a Russian Su-24 tactical bomber flew over the vessel triggering an incident that, according to several media reports, completely demoralized its crew, so much so that the Pentagon issued a protest [1].

The USS Donald Cook (DDG-75) is a 4th generation guided missile destroyer whose key weapons are Tomahawk cruise missiles with a range of up to 2,500 kilometers, and capable of carrying nuclear explosives. This ship carries 56 Tomahawk missiles in standard mode, and 96 missiles in attack mode.

The US destroyer is equipped with the most recent Aegis Combat System. It is an integrated naval weapons systems which can link together the missile defense systems of all vessels embedded within the same network, so as to ensure the detection, tracking and destruction of hundreds of targets at the same time. In addition, the USS Donald Cook is equipped with 4 large radars, whose power is comparable to that of several stations. For protection, it carries more than fifty anti-aircraft missiles of various types.

Meanwhile, the Russian Su-24 that buzzed the USS Donald Cook carried neither bombs nor missiles but only a basket mounted under the fuselage, which, according to the Russian newspaper Rossiyskaya Gazeta [2], contained a Russian electronic warfare device called #Khibiny.

As the Russian jet approached the US vessel, the electronic device disabled all radars, control circuits, systems, information transmission, etc. on board the US destroyer. In other words, the all-powerful Aegis system, now hooked up – or about to be – with the defense systems installed on NATO’s most modern ships was shut down, as turning off the TV set with the remote control.

The Russian Su-24 then simulated a missile attack against the USS Donald Cook, which was left literally deaf and blind. As if carrying out a training exercise, the Russian aircraft – unarmed – repeated the same maneuver 12 times before flying away.

After that, the 4th generation destroyer immediately set sail towards a port in Romania.

Since that incident, which the Atlanticist media have carefully covered up despite the widespread reactions sparked among defense industry experts, no US ship has ever approached Russian territorial waters again.

According to some specialized media, 27 sailors from the USS Donald Cook requested to be relieved from active service.”

The above description is accurate. You can read more, find some relevant videos and pics at Voltairenet.org.

So what happened in the Black Sea?

Mystery revealed:

Note, I am not a military or tech expert, so I will leave this part for others to spell out. What I will do for you is demystify the sequence and logic of the events in the grand-chess-board, geopolitical sense.

The US invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq in 2003 was supposed to culminate in the invasion of Iran. The USA’s plan, as revealed by General Wesley Clark in 2007, was to invade 7 Middle Eastern countries, Iran being the biggest prize. See more about that in: Vladimir Putin’s Message: Part 2.

Russia obviously couldn’t allow the US to take over the entire Middle East, thus creating an area of permanent instability in its unprotected south, or what is called ‘Russia’s soft underbelly.’ Ever since a clandestine battle raged between the US and Russia in which Russia protected Iran, while US tried to invade it. In mid-2000s, the US planned to attack Iran using its navy. The US navy fleet is certainly the most powerful in the world, both in terms of sophistication and sheer numbers.

The Iranian navy wouldn’t be a match for it, and although of course much more sophisticated, neither would Russian. Having been out of circulation in the 1990s, the Russian navy fleet lost the edge it enjoyed during Soviet days. Restoring the above-water fleet was a very expensive and lengthy proposition. Precious time was lost and trying to simply catch up would be risky for Russia. But Russia had advantages in other areas, one of them being submarines, much more sophisticated than those of the US. Another area was the secret Russian electronic weapons capable of jamming the most sophisticated American military electronics, thus rendering the entire giant US fleet useless. These relatively inexpensive but elegant solutions put Russia at an advantage over the USA.

(Read about Russia’s newest 4D-7D electronic warfare developments and watch real life demos in exclusive EARTH SHIFT VIDEO REPORT 4: ALIEN TECHNOLOGY & NEW RUSSIAN WEAPONS.)

Russia warned the US about its secret weapons. After a few discreet demos, the US got the message and was convinced sufficiently to reconsider the Iran navy attack plan. If you recall, the constant talk about the Iran attack somehow subsided by 2008. Russians, as is typical of them, never said a word about what was happening behind the scenes. If the tables were turned and it were Americans who prevented a war against Iran (yeah, right, keep dreaming…), they would have been trumpeting that achievement forever, and they would certainly have never allowed Iran to forget the favor. Nobel Peace Prizes would certainly be awarded, and so on.

Putin and Lavrov prevented the US invasion of Syria last year (read ESR5: Syria Game Changer), and saved Iran from the invasion more than once, to name just a few. Where is the Nobel Peace Prize? Where is the well-deserved praise? A little difference between Russians and Americans (EU, too), and food for thought…

So, by 2008, the talk of the US navy attacking Iran subsided. Instead, a very interesting thing happened. On August 8, 2008, on the day of the opening of the Beijing Olympics, Saakashvili of Georgia attacked the break-away republic of South Ossetia, killing in the process several Russian peacekeepers. The attack followed a visit to Georgia by Condoleezza Rice. We all know how this story ended – or do we?

The Western media was howling for two years non-stop about the Russian aggression against the poor little Georgia. Russia had the so-called 4-day war with Georgia, which in Russia was referred to as a minor peacekeeping operation. During a short incursion into the Georgian territory, Russian army destroyed an airfield full of American military hardware and the Poti port through which the American military brought in more hardware and supplies into Georgia.

Why would the US do that you ask? The value of Georgia was in its proximity to Iran. Having been told not to use its fleet, the US was implementing plan B: attempting to attack Iran through the unsinkable carrier, called Georgia. By destroying the hardware and port, Russia destroyed the US plans to attack Iran yet again!

You can read all about this interesting story, plus my detailed analysis, in my article: Striking Geopolitical Similarities: Georgian War – Beijing2008 and Ukraine – Sochi2014. In this article, published on March 2, 2014, you will also find some of my earliest predictions about Ukraine and Russia, most of which have already come true.

The above tells us that among other goals, in Ukraine the US is also pursuing the possibility of a revenge for the past Iran and Georgia fiascos.

By 2014 USA’s memory started failing again and they needed a reminder that Russians weren’t joking about their capability to disable the entire American fleet. When USS Donald Cook entered the Black Sea, Russians decided to send such reminder via a SU-24 demo. This was also a warning not to get any ideas about interfering in the Crimea, which was about to have a referendum to secede from Ukraine. Similarly, the US and their allies were warned not to try an armed invasion of Ukraine via Odessa or Nikolaev ports.

(Re. US plans in Odessa, Moldova, Transnistria and all around Black Sea, read latest ESR8: BLACK SEA GAMBIT).

I said in one of the early articles related to Ukraine that Russia’s defence capability is now back to optimal after the lapses of the 1990s. It is interesting that US/EU/NATO seem to continue being extremely surprised about that. Still, the USA’s sense of self-preservation is legendary. This is why (as I said in my Predictions) the US would never dare attack Russia directly. And this is why they will always try to use proxies such as the Kiev junta or Saakashvili (details in BLACK SEA GAMBIT) to provoke Russia.

That said, much of what the US is doing today is payback to Russia for past humiliations. Of course these are humiliations they brought upon themselves. As they say in Russia: ‘don’t dig a grave for someone else, you’ll end up in it yourself.’

Going back to my Predictions, I also said that due to Russia’s unique nature and character, she can bounce back from any adversity much faster than any other country, thus always surprising the attacker. This is why it’s futile to try to invade Russia. In this case, Russians wisely and very discreetly taught Americans a lesson they aren’t likely to forget. This one episode may have stopped the direct military Western interference in Ukraine.

Incidentally, the pilots of that SU-24 are true heroes. One needs nerves of steel and true heroism to go unarmed against a huge, armed to the teeth, American destroyer. Of course, some good Russian technology always helps.

  1. An optimistic appraisal of a technological defense system akin, so it seems, to an EMP weapon. Theoretically, I imagine such devise may not only be capable of disabling Aegis ships, but similarly every other electronic apparatus within the scope of it’s deployment. If only such a jamming device could stop tanks and heavy artillery from functioning.

  2. Great article Lada, much appreciated!! ;-)) I hope the US will think twice before they start something else again…..besides we have to stop this nonsense between the “east” and the “west”. It is good for nothing, really!! We have to work together to solve all the problems that we are facing as citizens of the World!
    ;-))

ps: Yesterday I came across a video in which there is a small piece were Putin is singing a Russian song, but now I can’t find it anymore……do you have something about this for a post on a “lighter” note? Would be fun!

  3. Another excellent article, Lada!

No need to be brave if you know what you’ve got works! ;o) The technology Russia is using is not “up-to-the-minute” new, and neither is the article. The tech has been around since the 90’s and the article is a few months old, not circulated widely in the U.S. for obvious reasons. The tech is called Cross Eye and has been kindly “demonstrated” for the U.S. military by Russia on several other occasions.
Basically, two antenna, one on the end of each wing of the jet sends out of phase signals that confuse and jam the radars of the opposing force shutting them down completely. I hear it’s permanent, so that is probably why the blind Donald limped into a port where repairs could be made.
So far, the U.S. has not come up with a way to counteract this technology, though it is theoretically possible to interfere with it.
Of course, the military are yelling “Foul!” while they pee themselves realizing all their ships, planes and missiles are pretty much defenseless. So much for the Israeli’s so-called “Iron Dome” also. That system depends on Aegis equipped ships sitting offshore to implement it.

See this link for an abstract that briefly explains Cross Eye in easy to understand terms:
    http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/articleDetails.jsp?reload=true&arnumber=4339412

And here is a link to a good Veterans Today article on the incident:
    http://www.veteranstoday.com/2014/11/13/aegis-fail-in-black-sea-ruskies-burn-down-uss-donald-duck/
The comments made on that article are very interesting and informative and provide more detail from some people in the know about the tech, if you have the time.

    • Thanks, great addl info! I will gladly leave tech details to others and continue looking at the big picture. 😉

Re. your sentence 1. Actually, what I am referring to is this. The bravery and heroism, when your own life is secondary to the need to protect is an intrinsic quality of the Russian character. I believe the author of the referenced article understood the dynamics of the situation correctly and this is why I quoted it. Consider it a nod of approval. This quality of Russians is very hard to grasp for Westerners.

It’s not always that you have superior weapons, in many instances Russians displayed this quality of fearlessness and self-sacrifice in the highly disadvantaged situations, winning despite someone’s superiority. So many examples, including WWII of course.

Great example: 1820s, war with Turkey, by the way, also in the Black Sea – for the Crimea. Superior Turkey’s fleet was afraid to attack then much smaller Russian Black Sea Fleet because Russians were known for being able to disable much larger and speedier Turkish ships. Captain of a small Russian 60 man vessel that was surrounded by 4 large ships, ignited a gundpowder keg, blowing up his own vessel and taking with it all four then state-of-the-art Turkish ships.

This is an interesting video about another legendary incident from the same war: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4PKP9kvjdk. It’s in Russian but the pics are self-explanatory. Brig Mercury was a small ship, which because it was slower than other Russian vessels got cornered by two Turkish batleships (destroyers = Rus. linkor = lineyny korabl) exceeding the brig 10 times in manpower, size and weapons. The Russian officers decided to fight; the last officer alive would do the same as the above example – blow up gunpowder keg, taking the enemy with them.

They didn’t need to: the small Mercury was hit something like a hundred times. But it outmaneuvered the two Turkish ships in such a way that none of the hits were lethal. Meanwhile Russians managed to shoot back so well that they took down both Turkish battleships! Wounded Mercury returned back to Russian positions victorious. The result was that the Turkish fleet retreated and left Crimea alone.

  6. It’s alien technology, Lada. The Russians were given this and so was Adamus. I’ve listened to Mike Harris (a VT writer) describe it. When it’s switched on, all electronics stop. But it’s not an EMP weapon, because when it’s turned off, the electronics will work again (which would not be the case with an EMP weapon). Harris said that if an area is covered by this tech, any planes flying into the zone would just fall out of the sky. I can’t remember which show this was but I think it was earlier this year. However, Harris did not claim it’s alien tech. I know this from another source.

    • Not alien technology as most humans understand it.
I just calibrated: it is 5D-6D technology (in those dimensions it’s not called technology any more).
I’ll talk about different dimensions and how they work in my new Project Earth Shift on YT. Stick around. 🙂

  7. See http://www.ipcsit.com/vol55/002-ICICM2012-Contents.pdf for a technical description of “Crosseye radar jamming” technology vs. phased array radars. That’s what you get for relying on a single technology.

  10. In the video on Voltaire I see 2 different ships! The Cook is the smaller of the two, the first to be seen in the video carrying number 75 (checked it), the other ship is carrying another number.
What I further understood was that only the electronics were shut down and rendered useless, but it could still set sail to a port in Romania. If the plane would have shut down the systems first and the electronics would then have come on again, I guess that the Cook would have taken action against its assaillant.
So now I am wondering how this all works and how the system protects the plane itself, when using the device, from not falling down from the sky!

  12. Lada, you say that Russian defence is at peak again, and it appears to be so. Shojgu as the Defence Minister managed to rally the complex that seemed to be falling apart at the seams. However, the question of Serdjukov (the corrupt previous Defence Minister) remains. Do you have any insight as to why he didn’t get prosecuted and only appeared as a witness, and even some of his close surrounding seem to be getting off with a light scare? Russian newspapers also can’t understand the reason for such lenience. Some say Serdjukov has some dirt on Putin, but I have a feeling it’s more complicated.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Defence: I said optimal, not peak. The peak was what the USSR had. It hasn’t been achieved yet considering the new era we are in. Optimal means that it fully corresponds (adequate) to current necessity.
Serdyukov is much more complicated, you’re right. It would be disturbing a hornet’s nest – NOT Putin. Serdyukov is connected to people and things that are very important for the super-important intel gathering, incl in Ukraine, Israel and US. That would compromise them and ruin the carefully constructed net.

  13. One can imagine that the Georgian and Syrian wars were or are part of the attempt to take down Iran as part of controlling that whole area. So typical things, such as attempted color revolutions in Iran, are to be expected. In the current context, the US would like Armenia and Azerbaijan to fight a war. Something like Maidan in the Baltic states might be tried.

Anyway, the logical US strategy is to try to create fires all along the Russian borders, and preferably terrorism and destabilization in certain vulnerable areas. One weakness that the Anglo-Americans may have is that they are so predictable. Notice the decline in oil prices and ending a color revolution specialist to Moscow as the new ambassador.

Russia’s military power is strong enough that the US can’t really attack directly. No question. And Russia is getting stronger fairly quickly. Russia could easily take over as much of the Ukraine as desired, but the problem would be keeping the anti-Russian areas from causing huge problems. That is what NATO would do, not send in jet fighters.

If you want further info on Russian military power, you might want to discuss missiles. We have entered the age of missiles, and Russia has spent a lot on them over the years, unlike the US, who has built these huge targets called aircraft carriers.

See also: Israel Shamir’s talk at Rhodes Forum, October 5, 2013: “The Cape of Good Hope” http://www.israelshamir.net/English/TheCape.htm
Israel says that NATO did try to bomb Syria, intending to place the US Congress and the British Parliament before a fait accompli. They launched two Tomahawk missiles, Russia destroyed them, either by shooting them down (Lebanese source) or electronically desorienting them (Asia Today source) as a result of which NATO gave up.
By the way, Shamir’s profile is interesting. He was born in Novosibirsk, in 1947, moved to Israel in 1969. In 2004 he was received in the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem and the Holy Land, lives in Jaffa but spends much time in Moscow (where he lived as Haaretz correspondent, and liked it so much that he stayed!) also in Stockholm, his wife’s country.
He says many Jews in Russia have converted to Orthodox Christianity. Same in Israel, where “Many of them look for spiritual and religious revival. Judaism attracts but a few, while others turn to the Church for comfort. It is a risky enterprise: by Israeli law they can be deported for their belief in Christ. They gather and pray away from prying eyes, but on holidays they throng the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, the Nativity Church of Bethlehem, St George of Lydda and St Peter of Jaffa.”An Island of Faith
      By Israel Shamir. http://www.israelshamir.net/English/Greece.htm
This is news to me, Lada, and very surprising. If you have a minute, you could comment on this unique-sounding phenomenon of Jews looking for meaning in Christianity even at the risk of expulsion.
