Chronicles of the Ruin: Zelensky Bans Russian Language in Ukraine! (The Ring of Fire Around Russia series)
Russian language is now officially persona non-grata in Ukraine. This means that people are forbidden from speaking Russian in government and public offices, stores, schools and workplaces. The snitching and scandals caught on camera are at an all time high. Meantime, some cities and oblasts are gearing up for a fight against this discrimination.
Recently, in a very surprising move, Zaporozhie elected a mayor who is widely considered pro-Russian. Zaporozhie happens to be the biggest industrial center of Ukraine outside of Donetsk. It is a large Russian-speaking E. Ukraine city, and it also happens to be the native city of Vladimir Zelensky. Despite that, in mayoral elections the city voted decidedly against a Zelensky’s protege, thus showing what Zaporozhie really thinks about its most famous native.
Zaporozhie on this map is just below Donetsk
Ukraine before 2014. Crimea is now a part of Russia and Donetsk/Lugansk are de-facto independent. Many names on this map are in Ukrainian
Zaporozhie (ukr: Zaporizhia) is one of the cities gearing for a fight against the prohibition of Russian language. Kharkov is another city where a passive resistance is strong. After the death of its popular mayor, Kernes, Kharkov, which once was the first capital of Ukraine for a short while, is very unhappy with Kiev. In Kiev, which always was Russian-speaking (it was in villages and western Ukraine where Ukrainian was spoken), people seem to simply ignore the new law and continue speaking Russian. Knowing Odessa, over there people would quietly sabotage this new law, continuing to speak Russian.
Reprogramming the new generation
The biggest problem are not adults: they will quietly continue speaking Russian and watch Russian shows on the internet. The major problem is the children. They will make them speak Ukrainian in schools and learn everything in Ukrainian, and this is hard and confusing for the Russian-speaking kids. They would be deprived of an opportunity to learn their own language and culture. Of course, history has been long falsified. And these kids will be less competitive because they won’t be able to compete in Russian colleges. But this is the point: this whole thing is designed to reprogram future generations, so that young Ukrainians, growing up, would hate and deny their motherland, language, history and heritage. This is already happening in Ukraine, as we observe an appearance of the Russian-speaking ukro-nazis. But it’s still a relatively small number. They want to turn everyone into zombies, to become cannon fodder in a future war against Russia.
The Shadow Side of Russia
Actually, the sane and grown-up Ukrainians get it. The problem is, as we previously discussed on many occasions, many sane people prefer to leave and forget Ukraine. This is the unfortunate eternal problem of Ukraine: it just can’t hold on to the best people. This has long been a part of its DNA.
And another part of the DNA is this periodic urge to destroy what has been built.
This is why I call Ukraine “the shadow side of Russia.”
I also am of the opinion that the area of the world we now call Ukraine has a long-standing tendency towards entropy.
