In this FREE post Lada Ray explains the secrets of the
Numerology and Feng Shui of the Year of the Rat,
based on the Flying Stars, 5 Elements, 8 Aspirations (8 Mansions)
and Compass Schools of Feng Shui!
Numerology of the Year of the Rat
2020, the Year of the Rat, corresponds in Chinese Numerology with No. 1.
You think it’s No. 1 because it’s the first year of the new 12-year Chinese zodiac cycle? Not at all! If it were so, then the second year of the cycle, the year of the Ox (2021), would carry the numerology correspondence of 2, right?
But the year of the Ox corresponds with No. 8. That’s because of the convoluted way in which the Feng Shui Flying Stars work, and because the direction of the Ox and its neighbor Tiger is North-East, which carries the No. 8!
Yep, I know it may be complicated, but no worries, I’ll always be your guide and explain what’s really going on!
The important thing to remember is that the Year of the Rat corresponds with No. 1!
Feng Shui of the Year of the Rat
These are the direction, element and color correspondences:
The Rat always corresponds with:
The element of water and colors blue, black, dark grey (5 Elements)
The direction of North (Compass school)
It is the direction of career success and money (8 Aspirations)
Specifically this year: it’s a Metal, or Golden, or White Rat; therefore, it also corresponds with colors white, light grey, silver and gold (5 Elements)
Moreover, for each of us individually, there is a unique correspondence to our personal fortunate and unfortunate (lucky/unlucky) directions, elements and colors, per my PERSONAL FENG SHUI EMPOWERMENT & SUCCESS REPORT and depending on whether you are East or West group!
As an example, for me North corresponds with Health and Protection. For someone else it may signify Personal Development, or Wealth, or Love. For some it may be one of their unlucky directions. It depends on your personal number, as determined by your REPORT.

Chinese New Year of the Dog and NEW Prosperity and Manifestation Rituals
Dear friends,
As many of you know, I am an Internationally Certified Feng Shui Master, who spent quite a bit of time studying Feng Shui and Eastern wisdom in Malaysia and Hong Kong. Every year I post something for Chinese New Year, including interesting facts, advice and more. You can read my previous years’ posts on FT under Feng Shui & Astrology. Since I am working simultaneously on many big new projects, I won’t do a major Feng Shui/Chinese New Year feature this year, except to say:
The Chinese New Year of the Brown (Earth) Dog begins on February 16. The celebrations last for 15 days, starting from New Year’s eve, February 15. Usually, the traditional Chinese New Year begins on a new moon, either in January or February, based on the lunar calendar. This year it also coincides with New Moon Solar Eclipse in Aquarius.
The Dog in Chinese astrology rules the North-Western direction. The Earth energizes the big metal of the Dog, which is positive. Generally, metal and earth do mix very well together, so this combo denotes a more harmonious distribution of elements throughout the year than we were used to in preceding years.
HOW TO MANIFEST PROSPERITY AND LUCK:
This year I made sure I’ve finished and made public my very special mini-reports, containing ancient wisdom nuggets and my tutorials. I hold a lot of ancient knowledge and wisdom in my memory, and I just want it to be available to others. It would be such a shame if it simply dies with me. Ask Feng Shui Master: How to Hang Your Horseshoe for Best Luck?
- Ask Lada: This is a very sweet question, and I decided it was a great idea to answer it for everyone’s benefit.
paleohippy What I really need to know is if you hang a horse shoe on the wall, should it be up/open to hold the luck or down/open to let the luck spill out. Serious Fung Shui master practitioners need only reply :).
FIRST, A WORD ABOUT FENG SHUI
We usually spell it as Feng Shui: this is Mandarin pronunciation, as spoken on mainland, such as Beijing. However, Fung Sui (Fung Shui) is also acceptable, although not really known in the West. Fung Sui is Cantonese pronunciation, as spoken in Hong Kong.
Feng means ‘wind.’ The combo Feng Shui means wind-water. In the ancient metaphorically poetic way, it symbolizes the expression of two kinds of fluid and ever-changing energy, or Chi, of our planet and everything on it. If you harness that Chi correctly, based on the wisdom of the ages, based on science, with due respect and creativity, you will get the result, manifest as harmony between your inner and outer worlds.
Lada Ray’s definition of Feng Shui in 5D:
The harmonization of your inner energy with that of your surrounding environment, taking into account the flow of both seen and unseen energies.

Incidentally, those who read my novel THE EARTH SHIFTER, and/or those who know some in-depth ancient schools of feng shui, not usually taught today, will know about the three layers of existence, corresponding with three types of energy and three types of luck:
heavenly – mankind – earthly
Why is this important? You’ll see below.
HOW TO BEST HANG YOUR HORSESHOE: FACING UP OR DOWN?
Believe it or not, both ways are equally good and auspicious. Hanging the horseshoe facing up is more of a Western and Russian way, although I’ve seen it done both ways in Europe. Hung with its opening facing up, the horseshoe collects the HEAVEN LUCK, falling from the sky, so to speak. It acts like a purse, gathering it inside and holding it in for you to tap into every time you open or close your front door, or every time you go by. Such as here:
This second example is a traditional Russian horseshoe, hand-carved out of birch bark. The inscription in ancient Rus script reads, ‘FOR LUCK’ :
And this decorative Spanish horseshoe is inverted to look down:
When the horseshoe is inverted to look down, it capitalizes most on EARTHLY LUCK. It acts as a magnet, pulling the surrounding earthly luck up into it. Then, when you open your door, it spills the luck to your doorstep. In other words, it acts as a constant supplier of luck, into which you step and bring with you every time you go in or out.
Incidentally, the horseshoe should best be hung on your front door, although some do hang it on the wall or above windows, as well.
Chinese usually hang the horseshoe facing down, which is the earthly-luck way of doing it – it is the Feng Shui way.
As you see, when it comes to the benevolent horseshoe, you really can’t go wrong!
Horses are considered one of the luckiest animals, and symbols of many good things: from victory to luck and wealth, from freedom to yang energy and great accomplishment.
To me, hanging a horseshoe, associated with the lucky horse, is one of the most charming customs spanning many world cultures. Enjoy!
