Lada, Thanks for the info on the Finnish-Soviet war. I really knew/know nothing about it. Just part of the radicalization and lead-up to WWII, obviously instigated by the usual suspects. But what historical grievances might have been involved were outside my ken. Maybe it is just nationalism. No matter how nice and decent the Russian Empire or USSR were, some groups wanted their own country. And now Finland is just a colony.
The reason I brought up the borders of the USSR was not to be anti-Russian. I know that Russia subsidized the other regions. But intentionally mixing cultures and leaving things up to Moscow had all kinds of side effects, which we are seeing today. It seems to me that the borders needed to be straightened out before letting the USSR go away. Besides the Ukrainian mess, many other regions could have been straightened out under Soviet rule and they weren’t. A big Armenian area is next door in Georgia. Georgia had Abkhazia and half of Ossetia. Ethnic Russians were stranded all over the place and are now discriminated against. This is a big deal. I read a comment from someone in the Crimea who said he basically had a bad view of Russia for the last 23 years. They betrayed all the Russians before, and didn’t care about them at all for 23 years. Now they might lose their base, and they talk about the Russian World and a Russian Spring. He thought that this was a big cause of all the Nazis inside the Ukraine who come from the historically Russian part of the Ukraine. Anger and a feeling of betrayal. Obviously, I have no idea, never having even visited that part of the world.
So we need to look at the recent past to not make the same mistakes. Many intelligent and well-meaning people downplay or even try to ignore or suppress nationalism, but it is a real motivation for many people. For better or for worse. In my view, it isn’t so simple as “a bad guy from far away came here and gave them cookies to kill their cousins”. With the collapse of Communism and the spirit of internationalism in it, people needed something to believe in. The corrupt oligarchs could offer nothing, and the fallback position was an ugly kind of nationalism, not just in the Ukraine, but also in countries such as Georgia. We all need positive visions and models. This is true of so many things, whether in our personal lives or with big things, such as the EU.

Opening thoughts
This comment brings up many important issues and questions. I tried to respond as fully as possible, leaving some of the things implied. You can glean deeper into the issues by revisiting ESR 3: OLIGARCH WARS.
Some of these issues, such as mixing different nationalities in one large umbrella culture, are a norm for large unions. Look at the EU, or USA, for that matter. We were mixed in one country, therefore, we will resent that country forever, does sound awfully immature and silly, don’t you think? Humans are a very social species, they are supposed to interact with each other closely – and yes, mix.
That said, the USSR was absolutely meticulous in providing the platform for unheard-of self-expression to small cultures, which would have been suppressed, and probably disappear entirely, as part of any other country. USSR went as far as creating alphabets and writing systems where they didn’t exist, subsidising art and literature in national languages and having mandatory national language study in republics, whether students wanted it or not. For example, USSR created alphabet and writing systems for many small tribes of Siberia… and for Mongolia.
Yes, there was no writing system in Mongolia before 1920s. The land of the great conqueror Genghis Khan, who created a huge empire, subduing Russia, China and Persia – and no writing system? No monuments of any conquests built, just scattered illiterate nomadic tribes? No books commemorating and glorifying such conquests? No legends? Hard to believe, right? This is why there is a serious doubt such empire ever existed and the Mongol-Tatar yoke ever happened in Russia. History, as I said many times previously, was re-written.
As much as I am an internationalist, even I feel the USSR might have gone a little too far… Celebrating diversity and multi-culti was the USSR’s ‘cult’ of sorts. You thought US or EU invented political correctness? Absolutely not! It was the USSR all the way – the West just stole the idea. As a linguist and international relations analyst (a couple of many hats I wear) I can attest to this first hand.
When USSR fell apart, all this support of local cultures backfired on Russia, due to the violent and disgruntled super-nationalistic minorities within such cultures, and due to the well-known international forces that had one goal in mind: destruction of the Russian World to free up space for the global takeover.

That said, we do have a global resurgence of nationalism, religious extremism, militarism and fascism. This is the sign of this PERIOD 8, as I call it. Therefore, there is nothing extraordinary in the fact that tensions flare up in the former Soviet republics. It’s part of the period we live in.
Meanwhile, it has to be understood that these tensions will always emerge where the weakest links reside. By seeing where tensions flare up, we know where the weakest links are. They are historically known, these weak links. Caucasus, Balkans, Middle East – no surprises. Ukraine and Moldova should have been expected too.

Paul, I don’t think I ever said it was some bad people who gave out cookies on maidan that caused the Ukraine coup. The ‘bad, cookie-wielding people from across the big pond’ simply used the situation skillfully to their advantage. Said another way: there is an old CIA/MI6 playbook: How to create color revolutions. It is the opinion of some very good analysts that this playbook hasn’t changed (it was only perfected) since the beginning of the 20th century. Why change what works wonders?
That’s how all these color revolutions we have observed, were created. Be it France to unseat De Gaulle, or Hungary in 1956, or Georgia, or Egypt, or Serbia, or Ukraine… It’s the same exact playbook. That’s why it was so easy to predict from the start that there would be cookies on Kiev maidan (or lavash, as in Armenia) and mysterious snipers, and innocent victims promoted all over Western MSM.
What this playbook targets is this: it capitalizes on the deep-seated resentments and anger of the volatile and immature part of the population. Extreme nationalism is part of the resentment and dissatisfaction due to the collapsing standard of living. This is why there was no nationalism in the USSR – the majority lived reasonably free (yes, free – in a sense of personal freedom to be yourself and live according to your tradition), was reasonably satisfied and well-occupied. There will be more about that in my upcoming video: Brezhnev’s Passport: Who Really Ruled the USSR.
The movements to change things and the local power grabs began only after Gorbachev destroyed the structure that worked. Gorby’s intention may have been to reform and rebuild on the new level, however, in his naiveté he had no idea who and what he was dealing with internationally. You can’t try to negotiate in good faith, you can’t try to build cooperative relations with those countries that have one exclusive goal: to destroy your country. This is why most Russians consider Gorbachev a traitor and criminal. However, I think this is too simplified of a view. He genuinely thought he was building a new, cooperative world with the West – the world without confrontation. But along the way, he and his wife fell for the trappings of Western materialism, aka, very subtle bribes.
The urge to build a world without confrontation is one of the quantum predetermined, genetically embedded characteristics of the Russian people. It stems from the fact that Russia serves as The Great Planetary Balancer (see PREDICTIONS). This is why Gorby behaved that way, this is why Stalin didn’t believe Hitler would attack the USSR, this is why Putin is doing everything to prevent the big war.

Nationalistic element is always present in the background of any society. But color revolutions are only possible when there is a lot of dissatisfaction with individual’s life due to high unemployment, lack of certain freedoms, enclosed society with lack of prospects and poverty. Dissatisfaction with one’s lot in life and lowly anger and jealousy towards someone who is doing better is then channeled in a specific way.
The more ignorant and brainwashed the population – the easier it is to do so.
Students, and generally young people, are always those who serve as main cannon fodder for carrying out color revolutions.
There is a number of reasons for that: young people often feel their parents didn’t do a good job and want change at any cost, however poorly thought out; students congregate in colleges and can be brainwashed easier together, after which they can be manipulated in a certain way; certain arrogance, lack of wisdom and ignorance of youth that makes them think they know everything; preponderance of fire (physically aggressive) energy that doesn’t find satisfactory outlet in productive activities – and gets directed towards destruction; higher unemployment and much extra time among youths; low wages and need for money, making it especially easy to buy young people.

‘The big Armenian area is next to Georgia’. Nope, the Armenian-populated area called Nagorny Karabakh is between Armenia and Azerbaijan. There is an ongoing conflict between the two, both considering Nagorny Karabakh their own for different reasons. Meanwhile, Karabakh is in the position of Donbass and Pridnestrovie. The conflict continues flaring up periodically, kept in check by the UN-mandated Russian peacekeepers stationed there. Nagorny Karabakh leans towards Armenia.
The real resolution of this issue will only be possible when both Armenia and Azerbaijan become parts of the new Eurasian Union. This is why various forces in Azerbaijan and out will do everything to prevent this from happening.
My prediction: it will eventually happen anyway.
South Ossetia and Abkhazia were former autonomies within the Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic, attached to Georgia by Stalin. They seceded de-facto as soon as the USSR fell apart. You have probably read my extensive article about the 2008 Georgia/S. Ossetia war, where I talk about all that.
Presently, both S. Ossetia and Abkhazia are slowly integrating into the Russian Federation, first unofficially. Populations of both unrecognized republics wanted to do it right away, feeling rightly that only Russia can provide them with protection, but are forced to live in a limbo for a while, due to resistance from Georgia and the West.
It’s not the first time small cultures want Russia to protect them. Armenia was once in this situation; Georgia once begged for Russian protection against Persia and Osmanic Empire, and acceptance into the Russian Empire – and look how diligently now they try to force their neighbors in S. Ossetia and Abkhazia into oppression; Ukraine once begged to be accepted into the Russian Empire, same with Finland, as discussed in previous article. How interesting that when the shoe is on another foot, those who were oppressed and begged for help in the past, now happily become the oppressors and bullies!
A very similar to S. Ossetia/Abkhazia situation exists with Pridnestrovie and Gagauzia (Moldova), but it’s complicated by the fact that the latter have no borders with Russia. Of course, the worst of conflict exists between Donbass and Ukraine.
Prediction: All these territories and former republics will need to learn to balance their own nationalistic interests with living and functioning cooperatively within a large union. As a matter of fact, we are in the period when everyone on the planet is learning to balance personal needs with those of the global society. Humans are now learning to balance their national needs and preferences with the needs and demands of the entire continent, union, or federation to which they belong.
A balance of rights and obligations is key. In all this Russia is playing the crucial role as the The Great Planetary Balancer.
Going deeper: balancing personal with the needs of all.
Does Russia owe or is Russia owed?
Paul, my personal view on all these ‘betrayal resentments’ is probably known to you. I will reiterate.
We all have personal history of some sort. You probably heard me say that I had relatives on both sides of the Russian Revolution and Civil War – Reds and Whites – some of whom lost fortunes fighting against the Bolsheviks, and others did well in the USSR. I write about such set up in GOLD TRAIN (Accidental Spy Russia Adventure), partly based on my family history.
In 1991, I would be one of those who got stranded in Ukraine, just like my sister and her family, if I didn’t know to emigrate before it happened. My sister had a hard time in Nikolaev, a typical Russian city tragically stuck in Ukraine’s backyard. Nikolaev, same as Odessa, Donbass and Crimea, was and continues being neglected and humiliated by Ukraine authorities and ‘real Ukrainians,’ aka, ukro-nazis.
There is so much more to my personal story, such as: how at least one member of my extended family was touched by Stalin’s repressions and how many members of my family were lost to the Great War.
Point is: we can make personal dramas out of everything and anything in life, brewing in our own misery and resentments, thinking someone OWES us the world, while we owe nothing back, and forgetting how much that country – Russia/USSR – gave us. One of the best educations; amazing culture and art, including books, movies, theater, sport, dance, songs; tons of freedom to develop and grow; completely safe, crime-free, natural environment; peaceful and nice, non-stressful atmosphere, where it was easy to breathe.
The rest is up to us: we have the inner power to make a life for ourselves we desire. And yes, sometimes it’s hard.
My sister and her family moved to Moscow the first chance they got in the ’90s. At first, they were considered illegal aliens, having only Ukrainian passports, while ethnically being Russian. Was it unfair and humiliating? You bet. But they had no resentments – they just kept their heads down and worked out all the bureaucracy issues, obtaining work permits, passports, establishing families in Moscow. My nieces can’t think of a better place to be. Same goes for many other people I knew in the USA, who first emigrated, but later returned to Russia, and who now live happily in Moscow or elsewhere in Russia. The list includes some very close relatives and friends.
To that I could add that those people I know from various countries who bought some nice vacation properties in Odessa, are now having a problem getting into Ukraine to visit their property, as transportation between Russia and Ukraine is shut. Moreover, real estate in Odessa fell precipitously after the 2014 ukro-nazi coup and the May 2 burning on Kulikovo Polie. They can’t sell their properties either.
I chose to live in the West at the time because of my career and family situation. As far as I am concerned, Russia has been doing soooo much for the world, without getting nearly enough in return. I personally feel I owe Russia everything, while Russia owes me nothing. This is why I write and speak up about the truth concerning Russia, asking for absolutely nothing in return from Russia. Someone has to explain all this to the people in the West.
I know you read my Earth Shift Report: OLIGARCH WARS, where I built an extensive case around psychological resentments and abandonment issues on the part of Ukrainians and other former republics after the collapse of the USSR. While this resentment exists, it’s incredibly childish and un-evolved. Humans are a very funny species. We can create resentments out of thin air and brew in such self-righteous resentments and anger for generations. Humans love blaming someone else for their problems, don’t they? It’s so much easier than taking responsibility for own actions.
This myopic tunnel vision, where some un-evolved souls see only their small point of view and are unable to expand their horizons, is one of the tragedies of mankind in general. This is how wars start and countries fall.
It’s easy enough to know if there is a legitimate concern and truth behind any such resentments and color revolutions, or is this an induced from abroad whim of a small, aggressive minority. Here is an example of how this can be done. Just last week we saw how the attempted ‘electric maidan’ color revolution in Armenia failed because people understood what mess Ukrainians made out of their maidan, and refused to be someone’s guinea pigs.
As John Kennedy, US president many Americans tend to respect, said: “Think not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
Another American whom I personally respect, called Mohammad Ali, once said that we have to pay the rent for living on our planet. We take a lot from our Mother Earth, and we owe her back. Same with Mother Russia.

To answer your question: no, it was impossible to straighten out all conflicts and rectify borders on the post-Soviet space. It’s naive to think that centuries-old inter-tribal historic conflicts with unclear and fluid borders for generations, could just be assigned in a straight line on moment’s notice. This is how UK and other colonial powers did it in Africa and America. India and Pakistan were also divided this way, clashes between them ongoing till recently, as a parting gift from the disintegrating British Empire. Stalin, Lenin and Khrushchev did some of that experimentation too, resulting in big problems later. The Middle East has seen some crazy redrawing of borders, resulting now in terrible inter-cultural conflicts.
In Yeltsin’s defence, not only he had the volatile situation in Russia to deal with, but he also naively thought that the USSR would be re-build on different principles soon. Therefore, he didn’t worry about borders too much. It didn’t occur to him that local feudal/nationalistic/oligarchic interests would take over almost immediately, aided by foreign powers who craved the Russian World’s resources and destruction. Again, in his defence: he was born and lived his whole life in the USSR, where all these things were alien.
While USSR was strong and stable, any inter-tribal conflicts were kept very successfully in check by virtue of mutual trade and unifying Russian culture. If there were national security considerations, borders could be redrawn (right or wrong). This especially concerns Caucasus, Moldova and Ukraine. Once the USSR was gone, these old conflicts flared up again.
Border settlement and rectification would be absurd and couldn’t happen in principle on moment’s notice when the country was already disintegrating. It often takes centuries to settle border disputes, and they still keep brewing unless a lasting compromise can be found, such as a large umbrella union. Unions serve as containment factors for border disputes.
France and Germany settled some of their border disputes only after EU was formed. That’s actually why some glorify EU as a means of bringing lasting peace to the European continent for the first time in millennia. There is some truth to that; EU did that – but only before it succumbed to the dark agenda of the NWO and Transatlantists. Let’s recall that both world wars have started in Europe and it’s understandable that EU citizens want to avoid a repeat of the same at any cost.
Also look at Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, India and Pakistan and their long-brewing border disputes.
Prediction: the ongoing border disputes between India, China, Pakistan, Vietnam, etc., will be put to rest as all these countries join SCO, Eurasian Union and the New Silk Road project. The BRICS already helped smooth out the long-brewing border dispute between India and China. Russia in all this, just like in the past, has been acting as that glue that helps keep peace and deflects conflicts. This is part of Russia’s global role as The Great Planetary Balancer.
Prediction: In addition to all the above, and most importantly, most former Soviet republics (including Ukraine and the Baltics) either never were successful independent states, or never were independent states within bloated borders they had as Soviet republics. In OLIGARCH WARS (and my various articles) I described how borders were given to republics based on political expediency at the time. Unfortunately, later, these republics refused to release territories they were assigned for the purposes of the USSR, now considering them their own.
Due to the fact that it was Yeltsin in power at the time, there was no one to address these complex issues. The existing legal system was torn out with its roots in the ’90s. The new legal structure, both in Russia and Eurasia is only now being re-built. There is still a lot to do. The mess created by the split wouldn’t have been possible to clean up quickly by the wisest person alive at the time.
It’s only possible now and it is being done – by Putin and his team. It will be a very slow and careful process so not to create a new mess. It has to be done right, based on principles of equity and taking into account interests of many newly emerged little countries, but without giving away any of the Russian interests and power.
The issue of borders among former Soviet republics will be settled by mid-2020. It will only be possible, yet again, as part of Eurasian Union and other Eurasian organizations. The alternative is perma-conflict. There is no other way.
By mid-2020, the world will look very different, some countries will be called differently, and borders will be different, too.

These parades are full of well-trained troops and impressive new hardware, as well as historic T-34 tanks from the Great Patriotic War. Also, there is a new tradition, called “The Immortal Regiment.” Overall 12 million people in Russia and beyond took part in the Immortal Regiment marches. This was a sight to behold. A boundless sea of people participated in Moscow, carrying pictures of their relatives who perished in the war. Putin joined, carrying a photo of his father.

While big battles with many casualties, tragedy and loss played out for six difficult years on the fronts of the most devastating war humans have ever known, I want to talk about another war – the war that was invisible to all but a few; the kind of war that dramatically shifted the balance of power on the planet. It was the war that helped ensure Victory Day.
You all know that I love to write spy thrillers. In fact, my thrillers are about spies by accident and out of necessity. GOLD TRAIN (Accidental Spy Russia Adventure) is about American journalist Jade Snow who goes to Moscow to re-discover her deep Russian roots and to get that bomb of a story; instead she finds herself between the rock and the hard place when duty and curiosity draw her to unravel a major conspiracy. THE EARTH SHIFTER, usually called a mystical thriller, has a significant spy thriller component. Sasha’s father Professor Maxim Elfimov happens to also be a master remote viewer and unbeknownst to him, he is husband to a spy. He becomes a spy in order to avenge his wife and protect his daughter, whose destiny is to become the Earth Shifter.
What can I say, I love spies. When I was barely 10, I often found myself inventing spy thriller stories in my head. I also love watching very intelligently made spy movies. Probably the best movies I’ve even seen in this genre were Soviet ones. Today, I want to share two of the best TV mini-series ever made.
Seventeen Moments of Spring (Russian: Семнадцать мгновений весны).
It was filmed at Gorky Film Studio, directed by Tatyana Lioznova and based on the book with the same title by the novelist Yulian Semyonov. The series comprises 12 episodes 70 minutes each. Starring Russian screen legend Vyacheslav Tikhonov. Other leading roles were performed by Leonid Bronevoy, Oleg Tabakov, Yuri Vizbor, Yevgeniy Yevstigneyev, Rostislav Plyatt, Vasily Lanovoy, and Mikhail Zharkovsky.
When the new episode of this film was on, streets got empty as everyone – young and old – were glued to their screens. Crime was generally very low in the USSR, but police reported that during Seventeen Moments of Spring it became non-existent, as even criminals had taken to watching it. The movie made an indelible impression, especially when it first came out. It painted a realistic and profound picture of Germany and Europe during the burning hot Spring 1945. It includes some real documentary footage of WWII battles, as well as Hitler and other historic figures of that time, embedded in the film. Real documents of those days are presented, as well as fictional documents based on real historic events. The film was masterminded in such a way as to seem like a documentary, therefore, it was originally black and white, to coincide with the documentary footage and appear more realistic. A color version was also made.
Historic Fact: As the Russian army approaches Berlin, in March 1945 Soviet leadership finds out that someone in Hitler’s closest inner circle is trying to sign a unilateral surrender with the supposed Soviet ally USA, bypassing USSR, who has done most of the work and suffered by far most casualties in the war against fascism. The secret negotiator for the US was Allen Dulles and negotiations did take place on March 8, 1945 in Switzerland. It becomes clear that many of the Nazi criminals who committed despicable acts on the territory of the USSR and who, according to the allied agreement, are supposed to be tried by the international tribunal, may avoid retribution as they will be quietly whisked away to the USA, while most of the Nazi power structures are kept intact behind the Russians’ backs. The operation was codenamed both Operation Sunrise and Operation Crossword (“Sunrise Crossword” in the film).
Berlin is already being bombed. Soviet leadership contacts the deep cover agent implanted into the Nazi regime since 1920s, who goes by the name Standartenführer SS Otto von Stierlitz, known to only a few in Moscow as Colonel Maxim Isaev. He was probably the highest placed Russian agent in Nazi Germany and Schellenberg’s protegé. Stierlitz must find out who exactly is behind these secret negotiations. As the news get more and more alarming, the Russian agent must also derail unilateral surrender plans. How, that’s the question.
As Stierlitz tries to figure out whether it’s Himmler, Goebbels or Bormann who are attempting to sign the surrender, there are unforseen complications. During US/UK bombing of Berlin, Stierlitz’ radio-criptographer is killed and his pregnant wife, his second radio specialist, is wounded and captured by Gestapo. As he attempts to solve the mystery of who is behind the negotiations, derail American plans and at the same time save his assistant, Stierlitz must find alternative ways of delivering his messages. A multi-layered cat and mouse game begins as he is also being investigated by Gestapo. The plot thickens…
As we know from history, the unilateral surrender never happened, thanks to that Soviet officer whose true name will never be known. Seventeen Moments of Spring is a fictionalized account; names and circumstances have been modified. However, the events described in the film did take place and the unilateral surrender almost became a reality.

Shield and Sword (Russian: Щит и меч)
Filmed at Mosfilm in 1968, it consists of 4 episodes. Starring Russian screen legends Stanislav Lyubshin as deep cover Russian agent Johann Weiss (aka Alexandr Belov) and Oleg Yankovsky as a spoiled rich brat turned anti-fascist Heinrich Schwarzkopf. Also made in black and white to represent the era.
A modest and helpful auto mechanic Johann Weiss is a so-called Volksdeutsche, or ethnic German living in Riga, Latvia circa 1940. But that’s only his cover. In reality, he is Russian Alexandr Belov. Many Germans living in Latvia are thinking about repatriating to Germany as the smell of the upcoming war is getting stronger. Johann’s best client is wealthy engineer and inventor Schwarzkopf. His son Heinrich is also a client and an unlikely friend, despite the difference in social stature.
Engineer Schwarzkopf is very valuable to both sides. Germans are convincing him to move back to Germany to help out arming and equipping the growing German army. Suddenly, Schwarzkopf Sr. is killed. Johann learns that a day prior engineer received Soviet citizenship and was planning on moving to Moscow. Afraid that the formiddable knowledge and secrets in his head would become Russian property, local leader of German Nazis has ordered him killed; however, aloud he says that it was USSR that took him out because he was planning on moving to Berlin.
Devasted Heinrich decides to move to Berlin and Johann follows. Heinrich’s influential uncle gets Johann a lucrative placement in German intelligence, Abwehr. Johann’s career skyrockets as he proves to be a very helpful and level-headed officer.

Meanwhile, as Heinrich observes Nazi atrocities, he gets more and more disgusted. He starts doubting the official story of his father’s death. Eventually, Johann’s friends show him proof of his father’s Soviet citizenship and his assassination by Germans. Heinrich becomes double agent now working directly with Johann.
The movie includes a universally beloved song “Where does the Motherland Begin?” as well as others. I wish I could post the song here, but Mosfilm doesn’t allow the embedding of its videos. It’s a very beautiful melody, and lyrics are simply stellar. Here is the video of this song, with a great clip from Shield and Sword, in memory of Oleg Yankovsky (С чего начинается родина – памяти Олега Янковского).

YUKOS: Murder Incorporated, and the EU Schizophrenia
On my blog, I usually write my own analysis and predictions. However, this specific Venture Capital report by RT, Murder Incorporated, is worth listening to, and is, moreover, a confirmation of much of what I’ve been saying. The analysis of the decision by the Hague and Strasbourg courts, awarding $50bln to the former shareholders of YUKOS, is very well done by the first guest. The anti-Russian sanctions analysis is also on point, and confirms my diagnosis: 1. sanctions are more harmful to the EU, and potentially even US, than to Russia; 2. these sanctions, and the entire attitude by the West, accelerates the Russian turn to the East, away from the West.
YUKOS is the former company of the ex-Russian Jewish oligarch and ex-convict Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who was released from jail on December, 2013, as a result of the Russian Presidential pardon based on humanitarian reasons. Incidentally, the main beneficiary of the $50bln YUKOS compensation would be another oligarch and Khodorkovsky’s crony, Leonid Nevzlin, who is wanted for 5 murders in Russia. Nevzlin managed to escape justice by fleeing to Israel, where he is presently hiding. He would be the recipient of the 70% of the $50bln judgement against the Russian State, should this ever come to pass. The recipients of the remaining 30% would be 4 other Russian oligarchs, hiding somewhere in London, I presume. Isn’t that nice! They want to keep it all in the family!
Leonid Nevzlin is wanted in Russia for authorizing the hit on the mayor of the oil-rich Siberian city of Surgut, and other high-profile hits. These were proven by witness testimonies and evidence. Many more hits were allegedly authorized by him, and by Khodorkovsky as well, which are hard to prove.
It has also been proven that the ex-CEO of YUKOS, Mikhail Khodorkovsky, bought the members of the Russian Duma and plotted a coup to overturn the Russian government, changing the Russian state structure. He and his cronies wanted to make Russia a parliamentary republic instead of the existing presidential republic – all this to unseat Putin, who even in mid-2000 was too big of a threat for the NWO and Transatlantists. At the time of his arrest, Khodorkovsky was supposed to fly to the US, where he was going to sell his stake in YUKOS, the Menatep bank, and other companies he owned together with his cronies, Platon Lebedev, Nevzlin and others. YUKOS at the time was the most powerful Russian oil company and the darling of Wall Street. Khodorkovsky’s plan was to deliver the Russian strategic asset – its oil industry – into the clutches of the US companies. Then, he wanted to take over the Duma and become the US-appointed head of Russia, much like Poroshenko of Ukraine is today.
The Russian government was able to defuse the situation based on the many economic crimes committed by YUKOS. YUKOS laundered billions through various offshore schemes and owed billions in taxes to Russia. This allowed YUKOS and Khodorkovsky’s prosecution based on economic crimes alone.
Why did the EU suddenly decide to resurrect the old lawsuit, which was thrown out previously by the EU courts, and why did they decide to jack up damages from previous $1.2bln to the arbitrary $50bln? Obviously, for political reasons. In the poor EU, torn between its survival & any semblance of reason – and the US pressure, the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.
It appears, the schizophrenic EU lives according to the old proverb: “To spite my enemy I’ll kill my goat, so my kids would have no milk.” At least, that’s what the EU’s poking Russia with a hot stick of senseless $50bln in damages, together with anti-Russian sanctions, is saying.

As some of you know, both of my novels about Russia, THE EARTH SHIFTER and GOLD TRAIN, contain important characters modeled after Russian oligarchs and their illegal activities.
One of the main characters of GOLD TRAIN is oligarch Yury Gurevich, who is modeled after real oligarchs I personally met, and also has the features of the infamous racketeers Boris Berezovsky and Leonid Nevzlin. In Gold Train, Yury Gurevich, supported by the US and UK, as well as certain forces inside Russia, finances and organizes the attempted antigovernment conspiracy in Moscow and St. Petersburg, which gets defused by FSB’s operative, Alexei, in cooperation with the American journalist with Russian roots, Jade Snow. Of course, the book is also about the stolen gold of the Russian Empire and is based on true historic events.
Boris Konukovsky, the oligarch depicted in THE EARTH SHIFTER, is even more interesting and multi-faceted. He is the derivative 
of the two real-life characters: YUKOS’s Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Boris Berezovsky, who had so incredibly hung himself – or rather was hung by his UK friends because he knew too much – in his house in London, shortly after he wrote a letter to Putin asking him for pardon and a return home.
The oil company resembling YUKOS in The Earth Shifter is called NORUS. Once a linguist, always a linguist – I couldn’t resist imbedding a code in this name: NORUS = not RUS.
The likeness of Leonid Nevzlin, who in real life authorized hits on those who resisted the YUKOS mafia expansion, in THE EARTH SHIFTER can be seen in the character of the head of NORUS security, Nestor Prokopenko.

But as Russia’s RT, another state-run news outlet, debunked shortly thereafter, Putin’s plane has not flown over Ukraine since the start of conflict there, and he certainly wasn’t flying that flight path Thursday. At the time, Putin was returning to Moscow from Brazil.

Many of you may know how I feel about the American MSM. Judgment and the Future of Humanity
One of my readers posted this wise comment in response to my two pieces and a reader discussion. These are the articles in question: Distorted Reality: Ukraine is a Disposable Lemon to Be Thrown Out and The Real Truth About USSR: Golodomor and Collectivization in Ukraine. I thought his voice contributed to the discussion so much that I decided to post it here, along with my response. Both Paul’s and my words contain a good advice, and a warning. See for yourselves.
I think it was Mel Brooks who said something along the lines of “Comedy is when someone else breaks his back; tragedy is when you get a splinter.” Unfortunately, this is especially relevant when it comes to historical crimes or wars. It is very easy to see the evil in a government or religion or society that we do not care for, and hard to see the same in our own. How many Native American children have been genocided in Canada in the last century? How many died during the American Holodomor of the Dust Bowl? How many are currently in the American Gulags, where rape is a policy? How do these compare with the evils in the USSR? And how does that compare with the plans of the Nazis, many of which were supported tremendously by the West?
Hard to say. It is easy to see that the Bolsheviks were brutal, but life was a lot tougher back then, so it needs to be compared with life in other countries in the 1930′s. Also, it is ridiculous and criminal for Western countries to criticize a country such as Syria for brutality during their war,when the West has funded, armed, and infiltrated the most barbaric folks on Earth with the specific goal of destroying the country. Who is the barbarian?
It is also worth contemplating the statements by Putin advisor Sergei Glazyev that the US has been the big winner from all of Europe’s wars and turmoil. Canada, too. If millions die in Europe, millions of skilled or moneyed folks move to North America. Who gains from turmoil in Eastern Europe?
Lada’s response:
Wise words. The only salvation for humans is to set aside their petty squabbles and start judging their own acts by the same measure they judge others. It’s certainly so much easier, and oftentimes so PROFITABLE, to see faults in others. There is an excellent Russian proverb: “to notice a tiny straw in someone else’s eye, while ignoring a whole trunk in your own.”
Spiritual people will tell you more: stop judging altogether, and then you will obtain peace. Unfortunately, there are those whose whole life’s mission is to take constant advantage of those who don’t judge and want to live in peace. Naive people, who don’t see the clear picture of the world, can be manipulated too easily, even when they have the best intentions.
Take for example the exiled Tibetan monks, including Dalai Lama, whose plight and suffering has been exploited by the West; their bitterness and desire to return to their homeland was made into a propaganda weapon against China, which in the end hurts only Tibetans themselves. We visit and support Tibetan Buddhist monasteries often, and we are involved in various efforts in regards to Tibet. What a beautiful culture and beautiful people! The fact that their plight has been exploited for geopolitical reasons by the US and other Western countries is just beyond…
Another example: the White (anti-Bolshevik) Russian emigration after 1917 Revolution and 1918-20 Russian Civil War. The tragedy of the bitterly divided society was exploited by the West to create a long-term animosity between Russians in Russia and abroad, in order to ultimately destroy Russia. Let’s not forget the fact that it was the West, primarily the British Empire, that financed Lenin and the Bolshevik Revolution, thus creating the division in question. It was the tragedy of the White (anti-Bolshevik, pro-Tsar) movement that they thought the West was helping them. See what I mean about naive people who don’t see the world clearly?
The goal of the ultimate destruction of Russia failed (not for the lack of trying), but the tragedy and the festering wound still remains to some degree, fostered by the Western propaganda. It is well-documented that because of their hatred of “the Reds” some in the Russian White movement became spies against their own motherland, and some even collaborated with Hitler, all under the pretext of “liberating their country from communists,” which turned them into the opposite of what they wanted to be.
I just watched a movie about one such spy and his slowly coming to this realization. Incidentally, I write about this extensively in my spy thriller GOLD TRAIN (Accidental Spy Russia Adventure). The story of the disappearance of the entire gold reserve of the Russian Empire in 1918 and the related present day conspiracy is based on true historic events. Some of the characters in the story bear resemblance to my own family history.
My point is this: see how easy it is for humans to lose their way; get confused; see black as white, and white a black? See how easy it is to exploit the humans’ lowly emotions for someone else’s advantage?
Incidentally, the recently uncovered data suggests that the last Russian Emperor Nikolay II and his family were executed in 1918 not by the Bolsheviks, as was commonly believed even in Russia, but by the so-called Essers (social-revolutionaries) acting on direct orders from the British Empire. Russian geopolitical author Nikolay Starikov writes about that in one of his books.
Conclusions:
I was born without any judgement. I never judged, envied, or gossiped about anyone. This doesn’t mean however that I didn’t see the truth about the people, the world in general, and the Western world in particular. As my readers well know, I see everything very acutely. I would have probably died without judgement, if not for the events in Ukraine which were based on outright lie, coupled with blatant Western interference for the same purpose – destroy Russia as the only competitor they had ever seriously feared. And this fear goes MUCH deeper than the material world.
Ukraine was the last straw and I decided to share ALL my knowledge and all experience, as well as my vision of the future, with as many people as possible. This is how FuturisTrendcast blog and EarthShift TV you see today, were born. We, as humans, are on a major crossroads, and only the knowledge and clear understanding of what’s happening and why will allow humanity to choose the right road. So, if you see me at times getting impatient that my message isn’t heard by many more people – you’ll know why.
So far, humans exist in the conflict-driven and contrast-driven 3D reality. For as long as this is the case, we must always compare, judge and remember history. We must always vigilantly monitor the present, exposing any distortions and lies so not to repeat past tragedies in the future. In the midst of distortions and vacuum of the Western MSM propaganda, which has pretty much hijacked the entire world, the voice of the alternative media and the voice of the people – sharing information, spreading the word – is especially important.
The lack of wisdom and the inability to see the world for what it really is, are the two biggest tragedies of the human race. These unfortunate traits are now fully exposed as the planet’s existence is quickly coming to its culmination. Some of us see the truth and reality for what it is, but the vast majority doesn’t. Humans either learn and move forward, or perish, dragged down by their heavy karma and inflexibility.

To Nationalize or Not? #Ukraine’s Breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk Republics Face Lenin’s Dilemma
We are firmly in the 21st century, yet the newly formed Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (together forming the Donbass region) once again face the old Lenin’s dilemma: to nationalize the Ukraine oligarchs’ assets, or not. The primary backers of the euro-maidan and the present junta in Kiev, possessing significant assets in Donetsk and Lugansk, include Renat Akhmetov, Igor Kolomoyskiy (the same guy who finances his own private army and who treats nearby Dnepropetrovsk as his fiefdom) and a few others. It appears the main wrath of the people is directed currently at Renat Akhmetov, who is a Donetsk native.
The dilemma, to nationalize or not, is the old one. Lenin agonized over the same after the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution and in the first years of the young Soviet Republic. After the referendum of May 11, 2014, during which 90%+ of the Donetsk and Lugansk citizens combined voted to form a broad autonomy with subsequent secession from Kiev, both young Republics started experiencing financial problems. Kiev turned off financial sources and threatened to stop paying pensions and salaries. Meanwhile, taxes were still being collected in Donetsk and Lugansk to be sent to Kiev. Boston Marathon Bombing: GOLD TRAIN Deja Vu?
Remember how a few months ago a meteor exploded above Chelyabinsk in the Ural Mountains, Russia? It happened shortly after the release of my visionary fantasy/thriller THE EARTH SHIFTER, and much like it was described in the book. Many readers had dubbed the book prophetic. I feel a similar sense of Deja Vu with the recent Boston Marathon bombing.
The mystery/thriller GOLD TRAIN is based on famous historical events of 1918, but it is set in today’s Moscow, St. Petersburg and New York. The protagonist, international journalist Jade Snow, who’s used to dodging stray bullets in Iraq, rushes into marriage and has a child before she is ready, and as a result, she has to say a premature good bye to a promising career. While Jade stays home with the baby, her husband jet sets around the world (hint: his career is fine). But Jade’s ever present longing for freedom and world adventures generates a subconscious rebellion, so when she finally gets a chance to go to Russia in order to investigate tantalizing mystery of the missing treasure of the Russian Empire, she lands herself in the middle of a deadly conspiracy that threatens to change the balance of power not only in Russia, but also in the world, and in the process, she meets a mysterious stranger, who may well change her life forever.
The conspirators are the Russian monarchists, backed in secret by spy organizations like CIA and MI6. And while preparing to destabilize Russia through civil war, they employ Chechen terrorists to do their dirty work, including attempts of deadly bombings at the Russian Metro, high-speed train, and other places (incidentally, it is mentioned in the book that Chechens, wanted for terrorist activities in Russia, are often given political asylum in the USA, UK and Sweden). While looking for the killer of her Russian friend and hunting for the treasure, Jade along with the FSB operative Alexei, must prevent terrorist attacks by the Chechen militants.

Boston bombing: First, my deepest condolences to all the victims of this tragedy, and to their families.
It turns out that the two suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing are the Tsarnaev brothers, aged 19 and 26, residents of Cambridge, MA, and immigrants from North Caucasus. Ethnically Chechen, their family resided in the Autonomous Republic of Dagestan, neighboring Chechnya. In fairness, I need to point out that some suspect a false flag operation in the hunt for the Tsarnaev brothers. However, I am not prone to conspiracy theories. Conspiracies happen all the time, yes – as you would see if you read my books. But conspiracies I write about are based on proven real world events. In this case, I have no proof of false flag, although voices in its favor persist. Either way, so far there isn’t enough information to make such a conclusion – yet.
After the collapse of the USSR in 1991 the always stormy and confrontational North Caucasus, populated by many warring tribes, where a child would receive a knife as a birthday present at 2, reverted to its nature. With no jobs for the young and no government controls, fundamentalist Islam, terrorism and Al Queda influence spread like fire. In the past 5-7 years, Chechnya has actually stabilized as the Russian government poured billions into this little autonomous republic in order to rebuild the industry and generate jobs in this beautiful, but unstable and depressive region. After the peace was finally restored and the population turned away from terrorism, the remnants of the “rebels” had crossed the porous borders into the nearby autonomous republics, notably, Dagestan, where they would hide out in the mountains.
The FBI has now admitted that the brothers may have had links to Russia’s most wanted man, Chechen terrorist Doku Umarov, who has blood of many civilians on his hands, including the deadly Beslan School bombing. Many of his cronies received asylum in the UK, US, etc., after their terrorist acts in Russia. It is a well-known fact that Doku Umarov’s fighters received training in Al Queda camps in the Middle East and parts so Europe. However, over the years, Russian requests for extradition of said terrorists had been routinely denied by the USA, UK, Sweden and Poland, despite irrefutable evidence of their terrorist activities. Take a close look at Mr. Suleimanov, the leader of the Chechen terrorists in GOLD TRAIN – look familiar?
According to correspondent/author Pepe Escobar, “Chechnya’s new jihadis want an emirate, as envisioned by Doku Umarov; a Chechnya-istan modeled on the Talibanistan of the late 1990s. Umarov always insists on global jihad – from Afghanistan and Iraq to Somalia and Palestine – against “everyone who wages war against Islam and Muslims.” Just as I have met a lot of Chechens fighting alongside the Taliban – and then captured in Afghanistan before 9/11 – there are quite a few Chechens in Syria as part of a global jihadi brigade fighting the Bashar Assad government in Aleppo. Chechens did hit soft targets in the past; it could be two Dagestani female suicide bombers blowing up the Moscow Metro in 2010, killing at least 40 people and injuring 100, or the gory outcome of the Beslan school tragedy in 2004, when no less than 334 hostages died, most of them children.” Escobar, The Boston Blowback

The incredible irony of the situation is that the Boston bombing suspects, brothers Tsarnaev, upon arrival to the USA, claimed and quickly received POLITICAL ASYLUM together with their relatives. They arrived to the USA in 2003, claiming to be refugees from Chechnya, although at the time their family lived in the neighboring Dagestan. They were still children and grew up in the USA, attending American schools, the younger of the two becoming a naturalized citizen, and winning a scholarship to MIT (according to reports). Another unbelievable irony is that several years prior, Russian authorities had contacted the USA, warning of possible older brother’s links to Al Queda and Doku Umarov, and demanding investigation. At the time, FBI scuffed at Russia’s warnings, as the US and UK insisted on calling the Chechen terrorists “freedom fighters.”
I guess, now that it has happened in the USA, the “Chechen freedom fighters” will be finally re-branded terrorists. Isn’t that amazing! Kinda makes you wonder when will the childish, ignorant and backwards political rivalries with Russia and other countries designated as “enemies” by the USA finally stop, and when will justice and reason finally prevail?
In fairness, I have to mention two things:
1. Most ethnic Chechens and Dagestanis are peaceful and law-abiding citizens of Russia, who want to live their lives and build a good future for their kids. Incidentally, most of the wrestlers on the Russian Olympic team, responsible for many of the Russian medals at the last Olympics in London, come from North Caucasus. Alas, as always, a few rotten apples spoil the harvest.
2. Also, the suspects’ parents still reside in the Autonomous Republic of Dagestan, Russia, and they deny their children’s involvement in the bombing, claiming it was a set up by the FBI. The story is getting more and more bizarre by the moment. Included are some investigative and eye-witness videos. Have a listen!
