In August 2021 the ancient City of Kaluga, located deep in Russia’s heartland, celebrated its 650th birthday. Russian/Soviet scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky worked there for 40 years. **The founding father of modern rocketry and cosmonautics (astronautics), Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky, 1857-1935, was a Russian and Soviet rocket scientist who pioneered cosmonautic (astronautic) theory. It were the Tsiolkovsky’s 1900s-1930s theories and calculations that became the foundation for Russia sending the world’s first unmanned Sputnik in 1957 and first man in 1961 into space, therefore, pioneering the era of space exploration by humans.**

At the same time, the Soviet-built science town of Obninsk, located in Kaluga Oblast, turned 65!
Watch three videos, featuring some awesome Russian songs, beautifully performed by talented residents of Kaluga City, Obninsk and the towns and villages of the Kaluga Oblast! Some nice sights of Kaluga, the oblast’s small towns and the nature around it! All Russian songs have a very nice melody and some profound, meaningful lyrics! A pleasure to listen and watch!

Sweet and Cool! Performed by the mayor (it’s the lady @ 2:25), town council members, local companies’ CEOs and execs, local musicians, teachers, students, vets, retirees and children of the town of Obninsk!
Since this one doesn’t have eng subs, here’s my translation:

I wanted to do something for everyone that would be fun and easy to watch, which at the same time would open up the soul and heart of Russia, the country so many in the West and elsewhere in the world understand so little.
Many in the West have been brainwashed to the brim with lies and propaganda all their lives. In fact, the lies and falsifications during the past 30 years have become so bold and mindboggling that to dispel them a huge and thorough detox is needed. I’ve seen and had to reply to comments and questions that made my jaw drop, and hair curl. You’ll find my answers to questions in the latest EYEWITNESS USSR Q&A.

They say it is through music, as well as literature and film, that the real soul of a country shows. I thought what could be better to show the real life in Russia and the USSR than to do it through its masterpiece songs and films millions still watch, sing and admire! And the idea of the The RUSSIAN MUSIC & FILM FESTIVAL on FuturisTrendcast (FT) was born! Most things I’ll share come with English subs, so you’ll land right in the middle of all action!
I plan to post the festival events, especially handpicked by me, about 2-3 times per week, here on FT for as long as… well, you’ll know! If you do not subscribe to my FT blog, please do, and please show your support by liking and sharing on your blogs and social media.
**Really great news for all my followers who do not understand Russian! I specifically searched and hand-selected the songs, cartoons and films than have English subs! If you don’t have your subs turned on on YouTube, you need to click on CC icon in the lower right corner of the video’s YT screen and you should see ‘English subs’ sign in the upper left corner. The subs are very good, but sometimes it’s hard to translate a cultural reference, that’s why at times the lyrics sounds more elegant in Russian. But the subs are still godsend and they give you a great idea of the actual content of the video!**
SMUGLYANKA
The first festival entry is SMUGLYANKA!
A SONG BELOVED BY GENERATIONS OF THOSE BORN IN THE USSR, the one that documented for posterity the fact that many different nationalities lived in peace and cooperation, never seen before on this globe, throughout the Great country that doesn’t exist any more!
**The real, REAL reason it doesn’t exist is all explained in ESW21 TRUTHS ABOUT THE USSR! And that reason, explained in my unique multidimensional way, NO ONE else will ever tell you!**
The song created some time during WWII against Hitler Nazis – the Great Patriotic War – received a new birth and was made especially popular when it was sung in the film “Only Old Men Go to Battle” (1970s, USSR). Both the film and song remain iconic and the song remains one of the most popular Russian songs ever made.
This song was recently performed as part of the #musictogether #10songsofvictory all-USSR flashmob, organized by an amazing Moscow musician and producer Timur Vedernikov. Aspiring and professional musicians, children and simple people who love to sing from all corners of Russia proper, as well as from some ex-republics of the USSR, including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, got together and created a new masterpiece version of the old classic. They managed to blend the voices and music instruments that many would find impossible to blend in such harmony. The songs in this unique flashmob have already become instant classics and they went viral on the internet. Together with the music, you can enjoy different cities, towns, villages, and people from all corners of Russia and USSR, coming together in a rare unity.

There’s lots of lovely and spectacular Russian and USSR scenery throughout my festival! And just watch how amazingly they blend those very different voices, from classic to folk and pop, to just the people who like to sing; and how beautifully they blend the music styles from jazz to classic to various folk instruments!
I am just hooked and in love, like in the song!
A REMARKABLE STORY
The film “Only Old Men Go to Battle” (1970s, USSR) is about a singing unit of flying officers – aces – during WWII in the Red Army. They love to sing and they have, not the number of kills like German aces had, but musical notes painted on their machines. Another remarkable thing, the unit is very multi-ethnic and they have not only Russians and Ukrainians, but also an Uzbek, a Georgian and other nationalities among them.
Their No.1 hit becomes Smuglyanka, “the season’s new hit,” as they describe it. The song is about a Russian young man who met a ‘swarthy or darkie’ – that’s what ‘smuglyanka’ means, a dark-eyed, dark-haired Moldavian girl and fell in love with her, and later he met her again at a partisan detachment (partisan/guerilla movement was very popular during WWII and many of those who were left behind enemy lines would join it to fight the invaders).
The story is also about a love developing between a cute young Uzbek ace, whose nickname is ‘Romeo” and a pretty Russian girl from the neighboring all-women flying regiment. The women volunteers joined the Red Army to fight the invaders from the West during WWII and became pilots, piloting small and very low-flying cropper planes, which terrified the Germans because they flew at night and were so quiet they most times went unnoticed. Nazi Germans called them ‘the night witches’ for the damage those little planes piloted by delicate women inflicted on the invader army.
