  1. Beautiful music by both singers. He had a great voice. I didn’t know anything about him and started to listen to his music on youtube. He died just last November after a long bout with brain cancer. Terrible and tragic loss. Thanks for introducing us to his artistry.

I was in college when this hauntingly beautiful song was introduced to mainstream American audiences in 1962 at the height of the ‘cold war’ by the Chad Mitchell Trio, formed by 3 college students at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. 1962 was the year of the ‘Cuban Missile Crisis’ and a year before Kennedy assassination. At the time the trio received some criticism for singing the song in the Russian.
