World’s Best Christmas, New Year and Winter Music
In no particular order, the best music ever written for the Christmas – New Year Holidays and Winter!
Enjoy as part of the FuturisTrendcast Year 2017 wrap-up & New Year 2018 celebrations!
There should be no surprise that most of it is Russian music — Russians embrace and celebrate winter like no other!
Гeoргий Свиридов ~ The composer of the Russian winter wonderland, Georgy Sviridov ~ the dreamy Waltz Snowstorm (Waltz from the musical illustrations to A.S. Pushkin’s “Snowstorm”)
Арам Хачатурян ~ Вальс из кф Маскарад ~ Aram Khachaturian’s amazing waltz from the Soviet/Russian masterpiece film Masquerade, after the immortal work by Michail Lermontov. (The New Year masquerade ball has been a long-standing Russian tradition.)
Гeoргий Свиридов ~ Troika by Georgy Sviridov ~ The word ‘Troika’ (Eng. ‘trinity’) usually refers to the iconic Russian set of three horses pulling a sleigh or carriage.
Гeoргий Свиридов, Метель ~ Georgy Sviridov’s Winter Romance
А снег не знал и падал ~ lovely Romantic Soviet/Russian song ~ The Snow Knew Not as It Kept Falling… (this amateur video is perhaps, well, amateur, but the music is very lovely – don’t miss!)
Salvatore Adamo ~ Snow is Falling
And of course, The Nutcracker. See my full post with several classic versions, and enjoy:
In addition, also from The Nutcracker:
Petr Illich Tchaikovsky ~ Pas de Deux (The Nutcracker)
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker (The Royal Ballet, UK) ~ lovely performance

One of the very first musical memories I have is of being taken to see a performance of the Nutcracker Suite and being mesmerized by the delicate and enchanting dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Cossack dancers leaping with their swords flashing. I was spellbound, and to this day it isn’t Christmas without The Nutcracker! Thank you for all these beautiful selections. Wow, you are so right. Nobody does Winter like the Russians! Love it! 😉
