New Documents Prove US Lied to Gorbachev and Broke Promise of NATO Eastward Non-Expansion
The newly declassified documents compiled by the George Washington University prove what Russian leaders, from Gorbachev to Putin, asserted for years: US and German leaders promised Gorbachev and Soviet FM Shevarnadze that after the fall of the Berlin Wall and re-unification of Germany NATO would under no circumstances expand eastward and that the balance of power and national interests of Russia would be fully taken into account. Germany, under this agreement, was supposed to be a neutral country.

US authorities and NATO have always publicly denied the existence of this agreement, which was promptly broken by the US, Germany, EU and NATO. Recently, ex-ambassador to Russia under Obama and a well-known Russophobe Michael McFaul, in an interview to an Estonian news service said that the assertion that NATO broke the promise given to Russians not to expand east is just a myth. As the documents prove, Russians were telling the truth, and US/Germany were indeed lying.
The evidence presented in the video above shows without a shadow of a doubt that US/Germany/EU/NATO lied and swindled Russia and the USSR. The temporary weakness of Russia was used as an excuse to break promises. Moreover, Germany never paid in full the agreed upon compensation for the withdrawal of Soviet troops, and we are talking billions of euros (plus close to 30 years worth of intrest!). This Germany denies as well, but I’m sure the documents to that effect will also come to light in due course. By the way, I have discussed this issue in Earth Shift Webinar 6: THE PUTIN ENIGMA.
Incidentally, US as a rule appoints first-rate Russophobes, who pass for ‘Russia experts,’ as ambassadors to Russia. There was once an exception, but that single non-Russophobe ambassador didn’t survive in his post for too long and was quickly recalled.
You may remember my Twitter altercation with the so-called ‘Russia expert’ Michael McFaul. Of course he did — a well-known fact in Russia, But it’s like Robert De Niro said in ‘Wag the Dog’ — ‘deny, deny, deny.’ They’ll always deny everything, unless they are caught red-handed, and even in that case those slippery ones will somehow squirm their way out of a tight spot.
McFaul has a large Twitter following consisting of first-rate Russophobes, many of them unfortunately Russian-speaking, such as the direct enemies of Putin, Ukraine nazis and nationalists, run-away oligarchs living in London and US, and Russian pro-West opposition.
In the wake of the Russian Olympic ban, a couple of days ago McFaul wrote that Russians should know that the Russian team, flag and anthem ban are all because of bad Putin. It is Putin who is to blame for the Russian athletes’ predicament, he proclaimed. In doing so, he: 1. confirmed that Russian athletes’ ban is politically motivated, 2. revealed fully who he is working for. It is clear that the whole ‘Russian Olympic ban’ psyop has been designed to divide Russian society and to try to damage Putin’s reputation before the upcoming Russian elections 2018. Dear Lada, to me it is almost a given certainty that when an American speaks it will only be lies and ignorance being sounded off. You have only to look at their track record with native Americans and the “forked-tongue” syndrome there.
Point of fact, when I was stationed in West Berlin in 1978, I went on a day trip to East Berlin and the rules stated I had to wear uniform. One East Berliner asked me if I was an American and on hearing I was English was very relieved and adopted a friendly attitude. I wonder what that says about US troops abroad, given their present antics in eastern Europe.
Now they have Nikki Haley busy embarrassing them in the UN with a couple of modified oil drums being passed off as Iranian missile remains. I mentioned in RT comments I was amazed that she was once upon a time governor of north Carolina and was profoundly corrected by horrified and embarrassed people from North Carolina that I was thinking of South Carolina. So it seems that some Americans are waking up to what their politicians are up to. The more lies they tell the more egg they’ll have on their faces!! 😀

alot of people who grow up in white russian familys woke up during the 90s to see that russia was the target all along even under the communist days russia still maintained its culture
but its cool to see russia create a healthy balance of Capitalism and socialism something the west use to do after ww2 all of the cold war propaganda would try to brainwash people to think that any kind of socialism is evil that Communism was the steping stone to Globalism pure Communism sure but after the cold war it was Capitalism that ended up being a steping stone to Globalism until now 🙂

One very chilling fragment is the quotation of a prophetic interview of the American diplomat George F. Kennan, which I dug up here:

“Expanding NATO would be the most fateful error of American policy in the entire post-cold-war era,” Kennan wrote on February 5, 1997 in a New York Times op-ed. “Such a decision may be expected to inflame the nationalistic, anti-Western and militaristic tendencies in Russian opinion; to have an adverse effect on the development of Russian democracy; to restore the atmosphere of the cold war to East-West relations, and to impel Russian foreign policy in directions decidedly not to our liking.”
Clinton’s later plan to “calm down” Russia was a joke, the NARO-Russia council. In Clinton’s own words, as quoted by non other, than McFowl, whom Lada mentions in the article:
“What the Russians get out of this great deal we’re offering them is a chance to sit in the same room with NATO and join us whenever we all agree to something, but they don’t have any ability to stop us from doing something that they don’t agree with,” Clinton said, as quoted by James Goldgeier and Michael McFaul in their book Power and Purpose: U.S. Policy toward Russia after the Cold War. “They can register their disapproval by walking out of the room. And for their second big benefit, they get our promise that we’re not going to put our military stuff into their former allies who are now going to be our allies, unless we happen to wake up one morning and decide to change our mind.”
The circle is now complete.

PS: USA surely shot itself in the foot there, but, in a way, that was a positive move to start awakening Russia from its self-destructive complacency.
