You’ll find that EURASIA/Russian World/Post-Soviet Space is grouped as a separate segment in the book. Historically the closest peers in it have been Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Included are expanded chapters analyzing all three.

I still remember how it was during the USSR days: there were differences, of course, but we all were very close. To this day, people throughout the post-Soviet Space and beyond listen to the same Russian music, watch same Russian movies and read same Russian books. They speak the same language, celebrate same holidays, even if in some places they are denied their birthright. They root for the same athletes. Their mentality is still very close, and many of them have relatives and friends across borders.

Russian and Ukrainian athletes are friends, no matter what (many such pics from 2016 Brazil Olympics appeared on the Internet, in defiance of the Kiev junta).

The divergence in directions of development, the differences in their lists of accomplishments and the gaps in calibrations are so epic that it almost seems unreal.
